Christmas 2011

We had a nice Christmas as I hope you did too!

Christmas Eve we had a relaxing evening with my Mom. The kids got to open their presents early since Christmas Day was going to be very busy with my in-laws. Isaac was excited about opening his presents, but he really enjoyed listening to the sound of the paper inside the bag. I love the look on his sweet face!
Most of the toys he got are good for his fine motor skills and hand limitations. He loves this new drum. He was getting sleepy after opening a bunch of presents and his O2 sats were getting low, so I had to put him on the oxygen for awhile.
It has been nice not having to worry about appointments or therapy sessions right now. I'm really enjoying a mini vacation from the usual!

No Oxygen For Christmas

Isaac has been sick lately with a family cold. Over the weekend he had a fever and was needing a high liter flow of oxygen during the day and night. Needing the 02 brings some challenges now that Isaac is wanting to be more active on the floor. He still wanted to roll around, except this time I had to make sure that he didn't wrap himself up in the tubing. Also the portable tank only has so much tubing length, so I had to make sure that he didn't go too far or the tank would fall on top of him!

I was a little worried about which direction this cold was going so I had a heart to heart talk with him. I told him that it was almost Christmas and that he needed to get better so that he wouldn't be spending it in the hospital. Today he is better and doesn't need the oxygen. This is what a Mama likes to see. I don't want a fancy present for Christmas. I just want a happy boy without oxygen to snuggle with. Autumn and I were feeling better by Wednesday so we went to Santa's workshop up at the hospital to pick out a present for the boy. Autumn was excited to help the volunteers wrap his present. While we were there, a few kids came in with IV poles and tubes so that they could go shopping for their family members. It made me feel sad for a moment when I realized that those kids would be spending Christmas in the hospital. No child should be spending the holidays in a hospital bed. I was glad to see that they got to take a break from reality for awhile and check out all of the cool toys. If you have a healthy child, be thankful. Having a child home and healthy for the holidays is a priceless gift!

So Much More......

Two weeks ago Isaac's special ed teacher left us with some homework to do. She wanted us to write down as many words as possible to describe Isaac. The nurses were in on this too and wrote down a majority of the words. Yesterday the teacher had some Moms over from the homebound program for tea and goodies. They gave me this present framed to hang up in Isaac's room. I love that it shows that he's so much more than his disability or health issues. It truly describes him!

Downtown

Yesterday we decided to take the little man downtown to see the pretty tree and hopefully Santa. There was a huge line to see Santa and the thought of him sitting on his lap after kids with snotty noses makes a Mama cringe. So we skipped that part. Besides, Santa already knows that he's been a super good boy this year!:) He's still doing amazing without the oxygen. Woohoo!

Isaac smiling to the "jingle bells" song. A special moment with Daddy.Checking out the bright red tree. The whole family. Bliss!

Little Mover

Look at my little mover. We had a party today to celebrate Autumn's black belt and he was showing off his rolling skills for Grandma Jean. He may not be able to walk, but he's quick! We finally had to install a gate because if we turn our heads too long he could accidentally fall down the stairs.
Taking a break to smile at Mom. My handsome sunshine!
