Saturday Night Update

I think we are moving in the right direction. The little man's temp is down, but once in awhile he will spike a low grade fever. These are his sats right now on baseline oxygen. I don't think I like the heart rate though..it's a little high for him. He's still very congested, but happy. That's what matters most. As long as he still wants to play and is smiling, he's not feeling too horribly bad. Here he is tonight watching his Baby Einstein movie with a cute tongue smile. Please keep our little friend Jaxson in your thoughts and prayers. He's in the hospital with pneumonia.

It Must Be Friday

Here we go again....Isaac was doing fabulous until yesterday when I came home from the grocery store. The home nurse told me that he had a temp of 101, high HR and respiration's.

What???

How did that happen??

There's been a few colds going around at Autumn's school and she's been getting over one too. It's inevitable...as much as I try to keep this boy away from the germies, I'm afraid we can't totally avoid it. The common cold with Isaac usually involves much excitement, such as neb treatments every 4 hours, possible pneumonia and lots of prayers that he doesn't end up in the hospital.

Even though the Pulmonologist office is recommending that we get him evaluated at the hospital, I want to try treating him at home. Since he just got over c-diff, I don't want him going to that hospital so that they can pump him up with more antibiotics. No thank you!

Prayers please that we can get through the rest of the weekend hospital free!

Friday Afternoon Update: The temp is down to normal now. Maybe we will avoid the hospital after all. :)

Communicating

Today Isaac's speech therapist brought out this communication device for us to borrow. Since he gets scared easily with new toys, I thought I would start out with pictures that have some of his favorite people. So if he presses the one with Mama's picture it says "I love Mama." If he presses the one with sister it says "hi Autumn" and then Autumn can say "hi Isaac." He's very interested in Autumn today for some reason.

He loves his sister!
People who have been around Isaac know that he understands much more than we probably give him credit for. We just have to get very creative about getting him to communicate what he needs. He uses some signs, but only uses them when we ask him to. It's so cute though, every morning I bring Brownie, the big brown dog up to him and then I ask him to say doggie. He signs it for me with this great big smile on his face! He's so proud of himself!

This is also a picture association book that I made for him by taking photos of toys that he enjoys playing with. This allows him to make choices. It also has pics of some of his favorite people. When he was in the hospital I brought this up and showed him a picture of the dog and his favorite home nurse. I know it made him feel better about not being at home!

Eye Appointment

So we managed to make it to the eye appointment without too many obstacles. After getting my Daughter and Nephew to school, then loading up the nurse and a bunch of medical equipment into the car, we were off!

While pushing the stroller to the appt., a little girl who was probably around 3 stopped us and asked if she could see the baby. Little did she know that he's almost the same age as her! She asked the nurse what the tube was and the nurse replied "that's a special tube that helps him breath better." I just love kids and their curiosity. They're not afraid to ask the simple questions and they're much more lighthearted than adults.

Isaac is going through this "scary" stage where any new toy that he sees scares him. He's afraid it will make a loud noise. This has made therapy sessions interesting at times. When the Ophthalmologist put some toys in front of him so that she could see how well he tracks, he got really tense and didn't want to look them. By the time the eye drops came and she stuck lenses in front of him, he wasn't too happy. After all that I told him "all done," and he sighed a huge sigh of relief!

To our surprise we found out that Isaac is very nearsighted. His prescription is pretty high for a little pumpkin like him. The Ophthalmologist said that since Isaac's world is mostly up close (toys, Mama), if we choose to get glasses, he would probably just need them for far away stuff, such as when he's playing his v-smile game. She said he can see about 3-4 feet away before things get fuzzy. I'm just trying to take this all in. I was totally not expecting this. I also talked to her about the crust around his right eye and she wrote a prescription for an ointment that we can rub around the eyelid. I'm sure he will love that! :)

Yes!

The Pediatrician's office just called me and said that Isaac is finally testing negative for c-diff! I'm so glad! It was worth it to go the natural route with the probiotics instead of pumping him with more antibiotics. Respiratory wise he is in the w-e-l-l b-a-b-y stage. Shhhh! We don't want him to hear any of that!

Tomorrow we have an appointment with the Pediatric Ophthalmologist. I've had to cancel this appointment at least 4 times due to illness! What is it about the eye appointment? The last time I had to cancel because he was in the PICU. If you could send up a prayer that we don't have any obstacles this time, that would be great! I'm very curious to see how Isaac's eyesight is. In addition I want to talk to the doc about the crust that he's getting around his right eye. I thought we resolved this last year when he had surgery to open up his tear ducts.

Today is my husbands birthday..he is the big 4-0!! I can hardly believe it! Happy Birthday to my wonderful Husband!!

Home Therapy

If you haven't already, check out this website called Kidz. There are some inspiring stories about special needs children and their parents. This week they are talking about Heidi, Juniors Mom who has made everyday tons of fun for Junior. You have to at least check out her blog and see Juniors great smile! He's such an inspiration!

Well it's that time...time to start talking about what our plans will be once the little man turns 3 years old. It's awhile from now, but will come sooner than we know it! Looking at my boy who is only 23 1/2 pounds right now, I can't even believe he's going to be 3 in April. Weighing the pros and con's of public school, we have decided that it is in Isaac's best interest to receive as much therapy and schooling at home as we can possibly provide for him. Since he doesn't have a very good immune system and the slightest cold can throw us into the PICU, sending him to public school isn't a great idea right now.

I recently called a therapy center called "stepping stones" and they provide home therapy for medically fragile children in our area. I was visiting my mother-in-law last month at the nursing home and her physical therapist mentioned that she worked for them. I guess you never know who you are going to run into at just the right time!

Speaking of my mother-in-law, she is finally going home Friday after a very long rehab period after her fall back in October. Hooray!

Isaac's diaper changes are becoming less frequent. It looks like I just needed to let the probiotics work a little longer. I'm so glad!

Our Little Man

I made this new header over the weekend and I thought it was perfect since we like to call Isaac "Our Little Man."

How Many?

How many diapers can one little man go through in one day?? Isaac is still struggling after getting the cdiff. I thought he was doing better, but the past 2 days he's been going through diapers like mad. The pediatrician said it will run it's course, but I'm wondering when they think it will run it's course. I'm waiting for them to call me soon. So far I've tried every probiotic in the book and nothing is really working. So please pray for some relief!! And soon!

On a fantastic note, we had a blood gas drawn yesterday and his Co2 (carbon dioxide) levels are significantly lower than they were a couple of weeks ago. He was in the red zone right after we took him home, which makes a Mom a little worried. The pulmonlologist was pleased and wants him to continue using bi-pap at night, which seems to be helping him a great deal.

Oh, I forgot to mention my birthday! My family came over and we had pizza, cake and presents. Isaac got some belated Christmas presents too! He enjoyed getting some holding time with Autumn and his cousin Chelstie.
I also got a new cookbook from my Nana. I admit, the title threw me off at first, but it has some fast and easy recipes. Just what I needed! Thanks Nana!At the end of day it was time for Isaac to get some serious napping in with his Daddy.
